At Sleep Dentistry of Portland & Vancouver, sedation dentistry is simple and safe. If you request sedation, you and your doctor will decide together on the appropriate type.
How exactly does Sedation Dentistry work?
Sedation is an option for almost all aspects of dental care, including routine cleanings, cosmetic dentistry, and other treatment provided by Sleep Dentistry of Portland & Vancouver.
Our sedation dentistry allows us to provide dental treatment that normally would require multiple visits to be accomplished in as little as one. Regardless of the sedation type, we will make sure you are completely comfortable before starting treatment.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas, is an option for patients who wish to be lightly sedated. Its relaxing effects wear off quickly once treatment is finished, allowing you to drive yourself to and from your appointment.
Minimal sedation is administered orally by taking a small pill an hour before your appointment. You will already be relaxed by the time you arrive at Sleep Dentistry of Portland & Vancouver.
We seat you in a comfortable chair and with a warm blanket. Depending on the individual case, we then will administer another oral sedation dose.
Moderate to Deep Sedation
Moderate to deep sedation is administered intravenously by a trained and certified dentist or anesthesiologist.
Your safety is our highest priority. One of our team members will always be with you, and you will be monitored by the same equipment that hospitals use to track vital signs.
General anesthesia also is available. This sedation most often benefits special-needs or developmentally disabled patients.
Deep sedation and general anesthesia allow us to sedate you to the point where you are unaware of the dentistry being performed.
