Other Common Questions

  • What is Sedation? Sedation is the inducing of a relaxed state, achieved with the aid of pharmaceuticals. Its use makes visits to the dentist easier and more comfortable for many patients. Sedation can be either conscious or unconscious.
  • Is Sedation Required as Part of Treatment? No, sedation is a benefit we provide for patients who choose it. Our practice provides expert and gentle dental care to all patients regardless of their use of sedation.
  • Will I Feel Any Discomfort or Pain? With the right level of sedation, you will have minimal if any discomfort or pain.
  • Will I Be Unconscious? With minimal sedation, you may doze off. The level of sedation depends on your individual needs. We will sedate you to the point where you are completely comfortable and can easily tolerate treatment. For some patients, this is to the point of unconsciousness.
  • Will I Be Monitored? Yes, with the same equipment that hospitals use to monitor vital signs. One of our team members is always with you throughout your appointment.
  • What Happens During the Sedation Dentistry Procedure? All of your dental treatment simply happens while you are asleep.
  • How Long Will I Be Sedated? Depending on your needs, between two and six hours.
  • Will Someone Need to Accompany Me? Yes, you will need someone to accompany you to and from your appointment with all types of sedation besides nitrous oxide.
