At Sleep Dentistry, we provide precise, minimally invasive implant placement for patients in Portland, OR, and Vancouver, WA, ensuring a secure, natural-looking, and long-lasting solution for missing teeth.

What Is Surgical Implant Placement?

Surgical implant placement is the process of inserting a biocompatible titanium post into the jawbone to serve as an artificial tooth root. Over time, the implant fuses with the bone (osseointegration) to provide a stable foundation for a crown, bridge, or denture.

Benefits of Surgical Implant Placement

✔ Permanent Tooth Replacement – Unlike dentures or bridges, implants offer a lifelong solution.

✔ Mimics Natural Teeth – Feels, looks, and functions like a natural tooth.

✔ Prevents Bone Loss – Stimulates the jawbone, preserving facial structure.

✔ Enhances Oral Function – Allows for normal eating, speaking, and chewing without slipping.

✔ Protects Adjacent Teeth – Unlike dental bridges, implants do not rely on surrounding teeth for support.

✔ High Success Rate – When placed by a highly skilled professionals, dental implants can have as high as a 98% success rate.

Who Is a Candidate for Surgical Implant Placement?

You may be a candidate for dental implants if you:

✔ Have one or more missing teeth and want a permanent solution.

✔ Have sufficient jawbone density to support an implant (or are open to bone grafting if needed).

✔ Are in good overall health, free from conditions that affect healing (such as uncontrolled diabetes).

✔ Want a natural-looking and fully functional tooth replacement without the hassle of removable dentures.

Procedure Relaxing Procedure

Bone Grafting for Successful Implant Placement

If your jawbone lacks sufficient volume to support an implant, bone grafting may be necessary before placement. This procedure helps reinforce the jawbone to ensure implant stability and longevity.

Procedure Relaxing Procedure

Our Surgical Implant Placement Process

1. Consultation & Digital Imaging

We begin with a comprehensive exam and digital X-rays and 3D CBCT scans to assess your jawbone health and determine the best implant placement strategy.

2. Sedation & Anesthesia Options

To ensure the highest level of comfort and a stress-free experience, we offer multiple sedation options:

✔ Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) – Helps ease anxiety while keeping you awake.

✔ Oral Sedation – A prescribed sedative taken before the procedure for relaxation.

✔ IV Sedation – Provides a deeper level of sedation for a fear-free and relaxed experience.

✔ General Anesthesia – Can be used for complex cases, like multiple implant placement or patients with extreme dental anxiety.

3. Surgical Placement of the Implant

During the procedure:

  • small incision is made in the gum to expose the jawbone.
  • The implant post is precisely placed into the bone using a surgery guide created from the 3D image of you bone structure.
  • Depending on the density, thickness and height of your bone, the implant restoration may be placed immediately, or the gums may be sutured closed to allow for healing and osseointegration.

4. Healing & Osseointegration

Implant needs time to integrate with the bone, which usually takes from 3 to 6 months. A temporary restoration may be placed to maintain function and aesthetics during this healing period.

5. Abutment & Final Restoration

Once healing is complete:

✔ A custom abutment is attached to the implant to support the final restoration.

✔ A custom crown, bridge, or denture is securely attached for a natural look and feel.

✔ Your new tooth, bridge or denture is now fully restored and functional, so you smile with confidence!
